BILLINGHAM TOWN V DURHAM CITY PREVIEW

EBAC LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

BILLINGHAM TOWN V DURHAM CITY PREVIEW

Saturday 19th August, Bedford Terrace, 3:00 kick off

DURHAM CITY OVERVIEW:

Manager Oliver Hotchkiss has done an excellent job since taking over the reigns last October. Three quarters of the squad left but he conjured up a team of young players (excellent youth set-up) who liked to play attacking football. The majority of the squad that defeated Town back in March have registered for this season. Included are two Allens, two Joyce's and two Thompson's!! Attacking midfielder Stephen Malloy has plenty of experience playing in division one while Callum Smith is an astute signing from Esh Winning; Joe Joyce signed for the citizens from Bishop Auckland. Durham have won both of their games so far by narrow margins and the view within the club has been a pragmatic one - plenty of possession but lacking a cutting edge in front of goal.

ONE TO WATCH: BRADLEY HIRD

One of the best strikers in division two, Hird scored the winner in Durham's opening game of the campaign against newly promoted Jarrow FC. Although relatively quiet in our last two encounters, Hird is dangerous outside the box and likes to take the shot on early. Needs to be monitored for the whole ninety minutes!

LEAGUE RESULTS:

Durham City 2-1 Alnwick Town (Allen, og)

Jarrow 0-1 Durham City (Hird)

Easington Colliery v Durham City (Thursday Night)

LAST SEASON/MEMORIES:

Saturday 25th March 2016: Billingham Town 0 Durham City 1 (Dan O'Reilly 38)

Big Brother's Amelia Lily came for a visit but her presence couldn't engineer a victory as Dan O'Reilly scored the winner, seven minutes before half-time. Durham City were the only club to do the league double over Town last season.

SQUAD NEWS:

Hebburn Town wavered the seven day approach rule last Thursday so that Barry Oliver could bring in central defender Kris Summers. The Hartlepool lad is well known to Oliver and he showed an interest in him after last seasons 2-0 win against Hebburn in the league. Summers will train with the squad this week in the run up to the game. Stephen Oakley, Summers prospective defensive partner will return to the squad for the Bank Holiday game against Thornaby. Both Chris Dickinson and Jake Fenton are away on holiday.

Look out for James Hunters view on the game later this week on Facebook.
